Q: What's better, show chrome or polished stainless?
A: While polished stainless shares the same great look as show chrome, there's no comparison for durability. Polished stainless scratches as easily as your cars paint and it's a lot easier to see because of how reflective it is. Chrome is a super hard plating that readily resits scratching. For anyone that actually drives their car or enjoys not having to polish their covers every week, chrome is the choice for you! Take a look at what makes our products stand out from the crowd.
Q: Are your premium covers "Triple Chrome Plated"?
A: The expression triple chrome plated can be used loosely. It can mean there are three layers of any type of plating. All of our premium covers are plated with a total of four layers, we call it "Show Chrome". Before any plating the covers are smoothed and buffed by hand. They are then plated with copper and polished to a mirror shine, plated twice with a special proprietary nickel, then plated with chrome and a final buffing is done. In between each process the part is acid dipped and cleaned. Chrome plating doesn't get better than this!
Q: What do the finishes you offer look like and is there a benefit to one over another?
A: Out of the finishes we offer, chrome, black chrome and powder coating are by far the easiest to take care of and the only finishes we currently offer on our premium covers. We also offer machine finish (fine brushed lines) & polished finish on our billet aluminum caps. You can also polish the machine finish caps yourself if you're trying to save some money. Our stainless steel covers are available in polished, brushed or powder coat. Click on the following links to see a picture of our different finishes: Chrome, Black Chrome, Machine, Raw. We offer our bolt kits in polished stainless, brushed stainless raw stainless or powder coat. Click here to view the differences. The reason we only offer our bolt kits in stainless steel and not chrome is because over time chrome will fail on a fastener and rust. This is due to the pressure when tightening the head of the bolt, the nut, and the threads.
Q: Why does brushed stainless cost more than polished stainless?
A: The reason for the increase is because we don't sell enough brushed finish to justify the cost. We don't like raising prices but figured this would be better than getting rid of brushed stainless all together.
Q: How should I clean my new chrome covers?
A: Proper care can provide a show quality shine for years to come. To clean your chrome covers, we recommend you use a quality microfiber and a liquid sealant or a pure wax (not polish) with no abrasives added. Not only will this provide a scratch free shine but it will also protect your covers finish. If your chrome covers are just dusty, you can wipe them down with a paper towel and glass cleaner.
Q: Do you offer any type of warranty?
A: All of our Yofab & Specialized Stainless brand products carry a 1 year warranty if purchased directly from Yoast Fabrication or an Authorized Dealer. Please see our Terms & Conditions for full agreement.
Q: Can you powder coat chrome or stainless covers? What about anodizing? Do you offer the service?
A: You can powder coat our chrome & stainless products. They can not be anodized but you can get the same effect with a flat candy powder coating (translucent). We will be resuming in house powder coating soon.
Q: Can I polish out a scratch on my stainless cover?
A: It's definitely possible to polish scratches out of your stainless covers. It's not the easiest thing to do but if you have the time and equipment you can do it. A customer of ours decided he wanted polished covers instead of brushed... Here's how he did it: Brushed to Polished.
